YAA Longbow Championships 2011

The 25th YAA LONGBOW CHAMPIONSHIPS were held at Chantry Bowmen's ground in Sheffield on the 13th August 2011.

Lord Patron and Lady Paramount: Keith and Ann Shooter
Judges: Sean Gleeson and Carl Morgan

The rounds that were shot were a York and a Double National. There were 48 entries, and 2 who were unable to attend and sent apologies.

Colin Hope and his field party did a fine job of setting up the field, more so as on the previous Saturday Colin marked the field for the shoot and upon arriving at the field on the day of the shoot was told we could not have that field! So at short notice Colin and his team had to set up another field - not happy!!! There were 6 gents York Round targets and 4 Ladies/Gents/Juniors targets. It was nice to see 2 junior boys and 1 junior girl shooting.

We had sherry and cake in the morning after 3 dozen and again in the afternoon after 3 dozen. The weather was overcast with a 12-18mph cross wind - this was quite testing.

My wife and daughter helped again with all the bits and bobs, raffle, sherry, sorting out trophies etc. A first class job once again - many thanks.

Keith and Ann Shooter were first class as Lord Patron and Lady Paramount. Knowing most of the archers, they had friendly banter throughout the day.

We had entries from 7 counties last year, but beat it this year with 8 different counties taking part.

Thanks to all who helped, attended, and judged for making it such an enjoyable day.

Trev Astley
