YAA juniors perform well at National Indoor Championships

Nick Beeson - 4 December 2006

At the Junior National indoors Champs at Lilleshall on Sunday 3rd December, pride of Yorkshire place went to Paul Singleton of Bronte, who shot a National record of 447 (Portsmouth) in the Longbow. Yorkshire also provided another Champion in Matt Arnold, who took the Boys compound title.

Many other Yorkshire archers took part, but special mention should be made of Georgina Brown (Aire Valley), who shot while standing on crutches after damaging an ankle, and put in very a creditable score.

A successful year for Yorkshire field archers

Chris Parkin - 1 December 2006

Michelle Kiddy and Amy Oliver of Dearne Valley Archery Club have had a fantastic year shooting both nationally and worldwide with an impressive list of results at the top level in our sport.

Michelle won both the National Target Championships in August at Lilleshall and the National Field Archery Championships held in Ireland in July this year. Michelle has also qualified for next year's European field archery championships and is hoping to be selected to represent Great Britain.

Amy has also had a hugely successful year, winning several National level Fita field shoots as well as the NCAS and Yorkshire Championships. Perhaps more impressively, she is now ranked 1st in the UK and has been invited onto the National Field Archery Squad.

Saving the best until last, this year saw Amy qualify and be selected to represent Great Britain at the World Field Archery Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden where she shot a personal best score over the 2 days to finish a very impressive 13th, in the World!

Congratulations to both of them on an outstanding year of success.

Stephen Dixon in the England squad

Kath Fitzpatrick - 6 November 2006

Stephen Dixon of Savile Bowmen is now in the England squad that left for India on the 4th of November to compete in the Commonwealth Archery Championships. He is the third YAA archer to join the squad. He replaces a compound archer who had to drop out.

This is Stephen's first international event. Our congratulations and best wishes to "Big D".

Senior and junior rankings 2006

Kath Fitzpatrick - 6 November 2006

10 of the 12 current youth Performance squad members are in the national rankings this year, with two in first place. Some of our younger and newer archers are in the rankings, lower mainly because of their age group. Our congratulations to all those featured, but especially Matt Arnold and Nicole Allan, both in first place.

YAA juniors going to Mexico

Kath Fitzpatrick - 3 October 2006

Three YAA Squad members fly out to Mexico in 10 days time for the Junior World Championships. Matt Arnold, Danielle Brown and Nicole Allan will all be representing Great Britain in Mexico. Danielle has also been accepted onto the Paralympic Squad. Our best wishes to all three - good luck and good shooting.

YAA seniors going to India

Kath Fitzpatrick - 3 October 2006

Two YAA senior archers are among the England team competing in India at the first Commonwealth Championships. Linda Garner (Ladies Compound) and Grant Womack (Gents recurve) will be in India in November for this new event which we hope will support India's bid to have archery included in the Commonwealth games. For Linda this is a familiar experience as a GB international; for Grant this will be the first time he has represented England. Good luck and good shooting to both.

Subs please!

On behalf of Dave Phillips - 28 August 2006

Most clubs will have received their subscription renewal paperwork from the GNAS by now. We ask that you complete the subscription returns promptly. Please bear in mind that there is a timeline involved, and that the subscription returns and payments must be processed by the YAA, then the NCAS, then the GNAS. This involves a substantial chain of people, most of whom are doing the work in their spare time. Leaving the subscriptions until the last minute can result in a large backlog of work that may take months to clear. In particular, membership cards for new members can be delayed by a considerable time.

So, the sooner the better for everyone, especially your club's new members.
